Large retailers and other businesses have been the target lately of extortion bomb threats which have forced them to shut down, evacuate customers and employees, and search their facilities.
According to a CBS News report:
“Frightened workers have wired thousands of dollars - and in one case took off their clothes - to placate a caller who said he was watching them but may have been thousands of miles away. The FBI and police said Wednesday they are investigating similar bomb threats at more than a dozen stores in at least 11 states, all in the past week.”
Regardless of the size or type of operation you have, it’s a good idea to train every employee who might answer the phone on how to respond to an extortion bomb threat – or a threat of any kind. Trained employees are less likely to panic and more likely to respond appropriately and prevent human injury and material loss, and then to be able to help investigators.
